Attorney Angel E. Portilla joined the legal profession in order to promote social change, justice and accountability through the practice of law. As an associate at Farrell & Patel, Mr. Portilla leads a team of talented and committed individuals to assist claimants that suffered the brunt of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Mr. Portilla has also been involved in a series of other complex litigation cases ranging from anti-trust, healthcare and contracts law.
Education and Community Service
Attorney Angel E. Portilla graduated with honors in 2010 from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico earning his Bachelors in Business Administration with a Major in Accounting. He was recognized in 2009 with the Dean’s List of Academic Excellence, after obtaining some of the highest grades in their Business Administration program. Obtained his law degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, where he also graduated with honors and served as a Representative and Treasurer of the Student Council. As a law student, attorney Portilla participated as a pro bono student attorney in the University of Puerto Rico Legal Clinic assisting indigent citizens in a variety of cases where he logged hundreds of hours in pro bono work.
Public Service and Governmental Experience
Attorney Portilla Served as a legislative aide to the President of the Commission of Housing and Urban Development of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, where he collaborated in the preparation of legislation to tackle the mortgage crisis in Puerto Rico amongst other projects to alleviate the current economic crisis in the island. Mr. Portilla also championed and assisted in the furtherance of legislation which included tax reform, drug policy reform, contracts law, and family law related legislation. As a legislative aid Mr. Portilla also assisted in the drafting of legislation to expand access to affordable housing in Puerto Rico.
Attorney Portilla is a licensed legal practitioner and public notary in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
